NOTICE OF GW MADA PEOPLE INFORMATION SESSION & AUTHORISATION MEETINGS
The North Queensland Land Council (‘NQLC’) are holding A GW Mada Native Title Information Session followed by Authorisation Meeting, which are scheduled as follows:

INFORMATION SESSION AND AUTHORISATION MEETING WHO MAY ATTEND:
This notice invites all members of the Gurambilbarra Wulgurukaba People who are the biological or adoptive descendants (in accordance with traditional laws and customs) of the following apical ancestors:
- Hilda Ambrym;
- Annie, mother of Peter Hegarty;
- Emily Underwood;
- Jimmy White.
PURPOSE OF INFORMATION SESSION:
At the information session, NQLC legal staff will explain the business that is proposed to be considered at the authorisation meeting as well as answering any questions of the Gurambilbarra Wulgurukaba People in attendance about that business.
PURPOSE OF THE AUTHORISATION MEETING:
The purpose of the meeting is to consider, and if appropriate, make decisions about the following:
- Confirm an agreed and adopted decision making process to be used for making decisions at the meeting; and
- Authorise a replacement Applicant for the fifth Applicant, IG who has recently passed; and
- Authorise the current Applicant or, if a decision is made to replace the fifth Applicant, IG, a new Applicant consisting of the replacement for IG and the remaining members of the existing Applicant, to prosecute the claim and deal with all matters arising in relation to it; and
- Confirm the conditions on the authority of the Applicant, as previously authorised, remain in effect; and
- Authorise the entry by the Applicant into an agreement or agreements under section 87 of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) between the GW Mada Applicant, the State, and other respondents, for the purpose of securing a consent determination recognising the native title rights of the GW Mada People in the GW Mada claim area; and
- Authorise the Applicant to nominate Gurambilbarra Wulgurukaba Aboriginal Corporation ICN 9181 to be the Prescribed Body Corporate to hold native title rights as either agent or trustee (as decided by the Applicant), on behalf of the common law holders of native title to the Federal Court, in accordance with sections 56 and 57 of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth); and
- Authorise the provision of instructions for the North Queensland Land Council (‘NQLC’) to act as the legal representative of the Applicant and the claim group, to make minor technical amendments to the application and do all things necessary pursuant to the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) to progress the application to a determination of native title.
