M453-24(T) Port of Hobart New Year’s Eve Fireworks Displays – Prohibited Area
Mariners are advised that a ‘Prohibited Area’ has been declared in the River Derwent within Sullivans Cove during the New Year’s Eve fireworks displays.
A barge will be in position at Latitude 42° 53.161’S Longitude 147° 21.225’ E on 31 December 2024 at the entrance to the Cove to be the launching point for two fireworks displays.
A prohibited area has been declared within a 300-metre radius of the barge between the hours of 2100 to 2200 hours on 31 December 2024 and again from 2330 hours on 31 December 2024 to 0030 hours on 1 January 2025.
No vessels or craft (other than those with authorised officers) shall enter the Prohibited Area.
Regulation 71 of the Marine and Safety (Pilotage and Navigation) Regulations 2017 provides for the declaration of a specified area, including one surrounding a vessel at anchor, to be a prohibited area for other vessels or persons. A police officer may intercept and remove to a place of safety any vessel or person in a prohibited area.
