PROPOSAL TO UPGRADE AN OPTUS MOBILE PHONE BASE STATION

1. The proposal involves modernising the coverage within the Sydney Harbour Tunnel. The installation activities however are occurring at the Northern Portal Switch Room and the Northern Portal Battery Room to the northern entrance of the Sydney Harbour Tunnel. The works include:
• Replacement of a GPS antenna on the wall of the Northern Portal Switch Room.
• Reconfiguration of Optus rack equipment within the Northern Portal Switch Room and the Northern Portal Battery Room.
• Ancillary equipment and works, or any other necessary activity for the installation.
The proposal will provide Optus 4G (LTE700, LTE900, LTE1800, LTE2100) and 5G (NR900, NR2100) throughout the tunnel. The existing 3G coverage will also be decommissioned.
2. Optus regards the proposed installation as a low-impact facility in accordance with the Telecommunications (Low-impact Facilities) Determination 2018 (Amendment 1, 2021) based on the description above.
3. Notification is being undertaken in accordance with Section 7 of Industry Code C564:2020 Mobile Phone Base Station Deployment.
