WESTERN PRECINCT CONNECTIONS - ABORIGINAL REGISTRATION FOR COMMUNITY CONSULTATION

20/9/2024

On behalf of City of Parramatta Council (Garth Shayler, gshayler@cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au, the Proponent), GML Heritage (GML) seeks registration from local Aboriginal groups and people with respect to the future application for an Aboriginal Heritage Impact Permit (AHIP) under Part 6 of the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974.

The land subject to an AHIP is located in Parramatta in the Parramatta Local Government Area (LGA). The study area is marked on the map below, the Lot and DPs are:

Part of Lot 2/DP 1076148;

Part of Lot 4/DP 1132683;

Part of Lot 1/DP 1112822;

Part of Lot 1/DP 1172250; and

Part of Lot 35/DP 1206876.

The proposed development involves the construction of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, including a new pedestrian and cycling bridge adjacent to Marsden Bridge, an elevated boardwalk along the southern foreshore of Parramatta River and an interchange between the two.

The purpose of community consultation with Aboriginal people is to assist City of Parramatta Council in the preparation of an application for an AHIP and to assist the Director General of Heritage NSW in their consideration and determination of the application.

In accordance with the DECCW’s Aboriginal cultural heritage consultation requirements for proponents 2010 GML is required to compile a list of Aboriginal people who may have an interest in the proposed project area and hold knowledge relevant to determining cultural significance of Aboriginal objects and/or places.

GML invite local Aboriginal people who hold cultural knowledge relevant to determining the significance of Aboriginal object(s) and/or place(s) in the study area to register an interest in community consultation regarding the proposed activity. If you wish to register, please provide in writing (a letter or email) a brief statement clarifying that you wish to be involved in future Aboriginal community consultation and how you will assist with the assessment of cultural significance associated with the subject land.

All registrations should be received by GML at ach@gml.com.au no later than 4 October 2024.

Alternatively, registrations can be posted to:
